About the Author

Colin Dann was born in Richmond in 1943. After leaving the local Grammar School he worked first for a large textile company before his real love – the world of books – brought him a job in publishing at William Collins in London where he worked as a manager in the Fontana paperback division. During this time, in odds hours at home, he wrote his first book The Animals of Farthing Wood which was published finally in 1979 by William Heinemann after several rejections. It was an immediate success, winning the Arts Council of Great Britain’s National Book Award for Children’s Literature and has been translated into sixteen languages. The book has never been out of print since first publication. Six sequels and one prequel have followed and enjoyed similar success.

In 1992 a major animation series, based on the Farthing Wood stories and funded by the European Broadcasting Union, appeared on BBC television and simultaneously across Europe, attracting critical acclaim and great popularity.

Colin has been a leading children’s author for more than thirty years. In addition to the Farthing Wood books he has written many other animal stories including a trilogy about a pride of African lions. He is married and lives with his wife Susie in a converted Oast House on the Sussex/Kent borders. Andy Jones is a bestselling author for children. His books include The Fartionary and The Ripper Razzle Dazzle Big Book of Fun and Stuff. Andy is also a much-loved performer. His show includes musical items and interaction with the audience. He uses his guitar, drums and other props to help kids understand humour and why jokes are funny. Paul Whitehouse is a multi-award-winning iconic actor, performer and writer who has been involved in many of the best-loved comedy shows of the last 20 years. His roles and writing extend to The Fast Show, Happiness, Nurse, Harry and Paul, Help, David Copperfield, Finding Neverland, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Alice in Wonderland among numerous others.

Awards include several Bafta and Comedy awards. In 2013 Paul won the Writer's Guild of Great Britain Award at the British Comedy Awards. Esther Coles, London based actress and writer, grew up in Cumbria but is originally from Nottingham. Esther trained at RADA and recently featured as Miss Fox in ‘Enola Holmes’ and as Mrs Cox in Autumn de Wilde’s ‘Emma’ alongside Anya Taylor-Joy. She is also known for the lead role of Liz in the BBC comedy series ‘Nurse’, in which she performed and co-wrote with Paul Whitehouse and David Cummings.
