A wickedly funny tale of the post 9/11 world.

About the Author

Torsten Krol is an Australian writer resident in Queensland. He is best known for his novels The Dolphin People, a postmodern tale of two World War II-era German brothers lost in the South American jungle, and Callisto, a satire on modern day American attitudes to terrorism, post-9/11.

Described as 'reclusive', Krol does not make personal appearances to promote his work, and there has been media speculation about his identity; among others, the Sunday Star-Times and ABC's The Book Show have questioned whether he might be a better known author writing under a pseudonym. Curt Skinner has performed on Broadway, Off Broadway and National Tours across the USA. Most recently, he starred on Broadway in the Tony Award winning musical RENT. He has performed all over the world as an entertainer for Princess Cruises, Walt Disney Company and Universal Studios. Curt has done many voice-overs in film and television for animation and commercials in the USA.

Reviews

"The war on terror is ripe for satire – and this sly salvo is a modern Catch 22."
*The Independent*

"A brilliantly succinct, dry and subtly hilarious comment on modern morality."
*The List*

"A nail-biting trip into the Dark Heart of America."
*The Times*

"The main character of Krol's quirky novel is an unlikely candidate for heroism. Odell Deefus, who is naïve and of limited intellect, stumbles through danger, murder, treachery, and deceit to prevail against some of the more ridiculous aspects of the war on terror. In the process, he reveals some of the very real terrors engendered by society's response to these fears. Seasoned performer Curt Skinner catches Odell's essence with a naturalness that gives all his gaffes and malapropisms authenticity without slipping into self-conscious parody. Skinner does an equally convincing job with Krol's other colorful characters, giving the listener a black-humored romp through a truly dark subject."
