Using as her examples many famous gardens of the world, Hobhouse illustrates how one can design all types of gardens; her extensive accounts of such gardens as Great Dixter and Villandry effectively demonstrate plant combinations and design essentials.Though she discusses garden design with great enthusiasm, Hobhouse also shows common sense in stressing the relationship of the garden to its environment.
