GET EVEN is Les Cochran's third historical fiction novel targeting crime ridden Detroit from the late 70s to the mid 80s. Detective Clark Philips and his elite task force face the new wave of organized street gangs pouring massive amounts of heroin onto the streets of Detroit, using underage kids as traffickers. While at the same time, the mafia is puzzled by unexplained assassinations of mob members nationwide. Cochran once again pokes the Detroit underbelly with real event headlines and stories of point shaving, gambling, prostitution; all making for a fast and satisfying read. Early on, Cochran introduces the mysterious and intriguing Amanda, a femme fatale, so seductive she lures in a mafia boss. His finely crafted storyline leads to an explosive climax of twists and turns that will entertain you to the very end.Oscar F. Cochran's writing crackles from start to finish, painting a colorful, stylized picture of his characters and the gritty world they inhabit. The fast pace, however, doesn't take away from the depth Cochran uses to develop both his good guys and bad guys, which gives the reader the connection and nuance they need to really want to invest in the taut narrative.
