Selma Lagerlöf (1858-1940) was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.
'This atmospheric book characterically carries the Christian story
on the current of a Swedish folk-tale tradition. Elinor (age 9) and
Catriona (age 7) were captivated, and loved the pictures which use
light and dark to give a powerful emotional dimension to the simply
told narrative.'
