Journeys and Awakenings
Wisdom for Spiritual Travelers

Rating
Format
Paperback, 290 pages
Published
United States, 1 April 2019

Journeys and Awakenings presents a surprisingly diverse array of writers with penetrating insights into how we can help awaken a better world.

Spanning a wide swath of disciplines and cultures, what ties them together is their deep appreciation for the universal kinship at the heart of all spiritual and religious traditions. Each essay lights a path to a different place of wonder within us. Whether it is an astrophysicist asking if the universe has an inner life or a spiritual activist working with runaway teens at a New York City bus station, this is a book which feeds our highest aims. In turn, these perspectives, stories and accounts of an artist, a philosopher, a teacher, an entrepreneur, a paleontologist, a choreographer, an ecologist, an atheist, a spiritual guide, a social worker, and others - make this book a vital companion as we engage the world before us.

Writers and interviewees include: William Irwin Thompson, Pir Zia Inayat Khan, Christopher Bamford, Jane Goodall, David Spangler, Lee Irwin, William C. Chittick, Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Winona La Duke, Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Nambaryn Enkhbayar, Diana Beresford-Kroeger, Adam Bucko, Satish Kumar, Sister Joan Kirby, Yuval Ron, Charles Eisenstein, and others, each a luminary in their field.

About the Author

Seven Pillars House of Wisdom arises from a resolute desire to help create a more harmonious and thriving world. It is a place of hospitality and service, a community of fellow seekers cultivating a living wisdom that touches people's hearts, minds, and actions. Seven Pillars has set a table around which lovers of wisdom of all backgrounds are invited to come together to converse and collaborate. Robert Peretz Corman is a member of the Seven Pillars House of Wisdom Board of Advisors. As president of Applied Concepts, he provides executive coaching and whole systems thinking leadership to senior nonprofit leaders. Previously, Robert led the National Partnership for Social Enterprise, which focused on market-driven approaches to social issues and the Gallup International Institute, where he helped launch the Health of the Planet Survey. Beginning as a criminal and environmental lawyer, he became president of The Fund for New Jersey, starting various organizations, including a community foundation with assets now over $500 million. A practitioner of Nondual Kabbalistic Healing and student of shamanic traditions, Robert currently chairs A Growing Culture, an NGO that is building an online agroecology knowledge commons for global farmers. Pir Zia Inayat-Khan is a scholar and teacher of Sufism in the lineage of his grandfather, Hazrat Inayat Khan. He received his B.A. (Hons) in Persian Literature from the London School of Oriental and African Studies, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University. Pir Zia is founder of Seven Pillars House of Wisdom, and also of Sulūk Academy, a school of contemplative study with branches in the U.S. and Europe. His most recent books are Saracen Chivalry: Counsels on Valor, Generosity and the Mystical Quest and Caravan of Souls: An Introduction to the Sufi Path of Hazrat Inayat Khan, both published by Sulūk Press, an imprint of Omega Publications. www.pirzia.org
