John Greet (Auckland, New Zealand) lived in Southeast Asia from 1985 to 1997, during which time he was sentenced to 37 years in prison on a drug charge, but was pardoned and freed after five years. While behind bars, Greet was charged with assaulting a prison guard and spent two years in solitary confinement in leg irons. Following his release from prison, Greet studied for and was awarded a degree in creative writing. Shaman of Bali is Greet's first novel and he is currently working on the sequel, Blood Money.
