As the youngest of four children, Kathryn Cave spent her early
years being willfully misunderstood and ignored by her brother and
sisters. As a result, she developed a crew of imaginary
friends—wolves, dragons, aardvarks, trolls—who did exactly what she
wanted. After university, she worked in publishing for many years
before she started writing her own books for children, which
include Something Else, the 1997 recipient of the UNESCO Award. She
died in 2021.

"This excellent metaphor for the fears and worries of every child
(and adult) is accompanied by relentlessly cheerful illustrations
in fine line and rosy washes of color. Even the dragons themselves,
though fearsome, are kind of pastel. A great choice for the walking
worried." —Booklist
"Toothy but disarmingly tubby dragons stand in for childhood
worries in this light-toned bit of therapy." —Kirkus Reviews
