A leading figure in contemporary electronic music, Steve Roach is one of the most significant atmospheric/ambient artists working today. With over 40 recordings to his name, Roach is an expert against whom other up-and-coming electronic artists are measured. FEVER DREAMS opens with "Wicked Dream" a moody set piece that features Patrick O'Hearn on bass. O'Hearn introduces a tribal beat to the track, encouraging Roach to perform some of his best percussion work. His sound is never bombastic or overwhelming and his textured tape loops build tension as the music is propelled forward. With only four tracks on a recording that clocks in at just over an hour, each song is more than 10 minutes long, allowing the band to find a real groove and work toward a satisfying climax. FEVER DREAMS rolls and pulsates like a melodic engine. The drone of the guitar is punctuated by electronic sounds that are like beacons in a fog. Roach's mastery of his instrument remains unquestioned, and FEVER DREAMS is one of the most engaging atmospheric albums of the year.
